My Cousin Tone' will be at Iris tonight beginning at 8pm for two sets of straight-ahead, jazz blues, and hard-bop jazz. We will be debuting two songs composed by one of WNY's legendary trumpeters, Nelson Starr, Sr. Nelson has provided us with two songs that have a wonderful jazz blues feel to them with a touch of swing accentuating the music. They are sure to get your toes tapping!
We will also be debuting a song that was generously shared with us by Downbeat Award winning and Grammy nominated jazz percussionist Daniel Sadownick who is based in New York City. Daniel has toured with many of the greats from different genres including Michael Brecker, Christian McBride, Nicholas Peyton, Steely Dan, Nat Adderley, and Dianne Reeves and has played on six Grammy-nominated and award winning albums. Daniel is bringing back the straight-ahead and hard-bop percussion style that famously accented the music performed in the late '50's and '60's on Blue Note, Riverside, and Prestige labels. Daniel is composing fresh new songs that evoke this style. He has a Master's Degree in musical composition from New York University and the song we will be performing tonight is sure to be one you will not forget.
Come on out tonight for a night of jazz as we feature new songs and welcome the entrance of Russ Carere, Jr. to the band. We will have Karen Ragusa, our band leader, on bass, Jim Matteliano on piano, Bill Basil on drums, Kathleen Irish on trumpet, Russ Carere, Jr. on alto sax, Tony Zambito on percussion, and Jillian Ritchie on vocals. One of the rare 7 piece bands devoted to jazz at its finest.

Also, note that for some unknown reason - the listing for Iris did not appear in the Gusto listings this Friday! Yes - the music is still on. We are noted on page 23 of the Gusto under an advertisement for the Maple Entertainment Complex. Check it out!!!
Iris is located in Amherst on Sweet Home and Maple Roads. We hope to see you all there! Keep Jazz Alive in WNY!
