On Sunday, September 9th, at Villa Maria College begining at 6:00pm, there will be a special memorial concert to honor the late Jim Kurzdorfer - who passed away after a spirited battle against cancer. The memorial concert will also raise funds to establish a scholarship in Jim's name at Villa Maria College.
For many of our fans, you have heard us mention Jim Kurzdorfer's name with much reverence. He was a very special mentor to the band. While he is missed everday, the band continues to draw strength from his spirit. When we perform, we can still envision Jim in the front row guiding and encouraging us to play on.
Jim Kurzdorfer had an illustrious journey in music. Spanning decades that included being the original bass player for the world-renowned band Spyro Gyro to devoting 30 years to teaching students at Villa Maria College the finer art of jazz and music composition. Jim was highly sought after as a bassist and you would find him playing locally with the likes of Bobby Militello and Bobby Jones.
We are honored to play for this memorial that includes Jim Beishline and Janice Mitchell Trio, Colleen Williams and Bobby Jones Trio, and Michael Rieman’s Flying Colours. Students inspired by Jim's teaching will also perform.
Please come out and support a great cause and to honor the memory of one of Buffalo's legends of jazz. We will be making music that is surely to be heard by Jim and his fellow jazz artists who have left this place to play in the heavens. Ticket information is below:
